Anyone else facing any celebration challenges in their office today?

Earlier this week, we all decided to pitch in and get the boss a gas card and a co-worker who scrapbooks made a card for all of us to sign.

The catch here, is that I work in an office where 2 people work from home and only come in when a celebration is happening. On birthdays we always have cake. No one even MENTIONED cake for today until the 2 (who can only be bothered to come in FOR cake) decided to call another co-worker and ask her to pick up a cake. Never mind the fact that the boss doesnapos;t even like cake.

Ok, that was enough of a rant. The major dilema here is that my boss is the kind of woman who takes it personally if you donapos;t partake in a celebration fully, ESPECIALLY when itapos;s her day.

Is anyone else here sick of food-based office spaces? I think a card is definitely adequate enough, without having everyone add an extra 300 calories and sugar to their daily intake.

Any thoughts?
